On 110 film, how many photos does that take?
I'm an ametuer photographer, and I'm still learning. I've started my based learnings over a Sony Alpha SLR. I know everything based on digital skills. I'm getting my very first baby holga film camera for a very important trip I'm taking at the beginning of June. How many pictures does 110 film take? And if you can, (and if you know what you're talking about) throw in some shooting tips? Thankyou so much.

Well, first of all, I wouldn't use 110 film on an important trip. 110 film is fun and easy to use for snapshots, since pretty much all you have to do is snap the cartridge in the camera, close the compartment and you're ready. But unfortunately it's a REALLY small format film. It can take "okay" pictures but since the film is so small it doesn't capture very sharp detail. Don't get me wrong...it is a fun film to use, but it's just nowhere near as good as 35mm or 120 size roll film. 110 would be considered a "miniature" format.
A 110 film cartridge will give you 24 pictures.
I used 110 cameras when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's. Most of them are just very basic, "point and shoot" plastic cameras. Although there were some that had manual focus and manual aperture and shutter speed settings. I have an old Kodak 110 camera that actually takes pretty good pictures.
In fact, most digital point and shoot cameras are only about the same quality as a 110 film camera. Most people don't know that, because they only take casual snapshots with a cheap digital P&S camera and they've never used film. So they don't have anything to compare it with. A 35mm SLR film camera will take much better quality pictures than a digital P&S.
If this is your first time using film, then you definitely shouldn't judge film based on your experience with 110 or a Holga camera. A good quality film camera (like a 35mm SLR or rangefinder camera) will take very sharp pictures with incredible detail.
If you really get interested in film photography, then later on you should also try using 120 roll film. ("Medium Format"). Get a good vintage Twin Lens Reflex camera (like a Yashica A or Graflex 22) or a folding camera like a Zeiss Ikon Nettar.
One tip I can tell you is that if you shoot pictures outside, try to avoid taking pictures right in the middle of the day. The worst time is from around 11:30-2:30. If the sun is directly overhead, the light is too harsh and it will make colors look dull and washed out. Try to take your pictures either earlier in the morning, or later in the afternoon. When the sun is lower in the sky, the light has a much warmer tone and colors will look a lot better. The shadows will also be longer, and you will have more detail.
