Teamwork, cartoons and conflicts
The idea came when I thought of creating an image of teamwork. Teamwork is a concept that always is in demand. I exercise, I do occasionally think of ideas for action. I think instead of what I am trying to achieve. So when the team had no ideas to go, I ride on the contrary, the conflict. The first thing that comes to mind was a group of business people in combat. As I pondered this classic comic the visual, Dagwood, came to mind. When Dagwood entering a fight, the visual would be a cloud of dust, arms and legs and so forth. It was my idea! A photograph a cloud of dust, arms, legs and face that sticks out that could be used to illustrate topics such as trade negotiations, conflicts, and, yes, the same computer (pointing to the lack of)! As an added bonus, the image is intrinsically funny and amusing images tend to sell very well.
Models, fists and grimacing
To create the image that many models photographed making fists, grimacing, putting his feet, and so on. Then I need a cloud of dust. When I decided to turn the dust cloud, I was alone in my study. What can I use to create this cloud? I looked around my library for inspiration and found a face powder compact that any model should leave at once. This could work! I put a 4x5 sheet of white foamcore. I put the pressed powder in the bottom of the foam core.
I used a Profoto 7b power supply with two heads in the light of development. I used a head in a pool of light I placed on the floor next to the foam core. The other head was in a boom and already had a plate of beauty in the remainder of model shots. I went to the plate at all beauty.
As this company as a whole was a spur of the moment-one years, had no assistant. So I took my camera (Canon 1Ds MKIII with a 16 to 35mm zoom lens) in one hand and a box of compressed air in the other. While looking through the viewfinder at the same time the camera while shooting a burst of air into the dust. Hey, kind of work! I did it again. And yet. So I had to get up and leave the room so he can breathe!
Meanwhile, the agreement was null and dust, so I took the residue and back in time and fired several more compact. I probably shot a total of about a dozen shots. Until then, the whole place was a mess. My camera and lens was colored flesh. My shop floor was the flesh. My eyes were stinging and I started sneezing regularly. But it did what I needed.
Masks and mask layers
Then it was simply a matter of using a mask to select arms, legs and heads of several models and the strip in a cloud of dust (actually a combination of three different exposures). After counting of an arm or a leg up on the image used the mask layer of clouds to disappear from the game in the dust. Playing with the size and positioning of the parties, I realized that the image looks a bit like a suicide ... not good! By eliminating the Heads of the models in the picture again to look like a good fight of old cartoons.
The final step was a fund. I needed something to say "business", but always clean and simple. I tried an outside wall with the "conflict" happens on a sidewalk ... but not only I was looking for me. I entered my history files to see if it something better. I saw a stainless steel elevator had been shot in Buenos Aires airport. I double lift to create a single image to function as a horizontal image. I dropped behind the fight that the cloud of dust and voila!
A picture of success
The first three people who saw the image of all laughed ... a good indication that the image is a successful action picture. I have sent mixed images to be seen as a rights-managed ... and loved and accepted. The final steps in the process included the use of an FTP site to download the image metadata Model and news (yes ... I had to press for each model). However, in about six months, I know if I have a successful concept stock photo!
