Should I get a multiplier of a telephoto lens for shooting sports?

I like taking pictures of sports, and I hope to do business abroad. Currently, I have a 50-150mm lens and a 18-40mm lens. 150 mm does not cut completely for most sports, because of distance from the margin to the players (for example, baseball, soccer, auto racing). So I was wondering what would be a better option: buying a 2x teleconverter telephoto to help myself, or better telephoto lens (eg 300 mm) to be the best option?
